7 Squads Put on Positive Performances to End 2018

January 7th, Waltham, MA, 2019; The GPS MA Elite Boys Program finished off 2018 away from the wintery New England weather by competing at the Disney Boys Showcase held at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

It was a phenomenal way to cap off 2018 with the six squads that travelled compiling an impressive 14-5-3 record over the weekend.

The Disney Boys Showcase is a premier level youth tournament that draws some of the best clubs from across the United States.

Past iterations of the tournament have only included the college showcase portion aimed at U15-U18 players however the 2018 edition is the first year that U11-U14 players will have the chance  to compete.

GPS MA took full advantage of the expanded playing ages bringing the GPS MA Elite Red 07, 06, 05 and the Elite White 07 Boys squads in addition to the 03, 02 and 01 Boys.

The Elite Red 07 and Elite White 07 Boys competed in the DA portion of the event.

The Developmental Academy Program, created in 2007 by US Soccer, has a philosophy based in increasing training and playing fewer total games but more meaningful ones.

The Elite Red 07 Boys would put together a string of dominant performances in order to win the USSF DA U12 bracket with an undefeated record.

They would concede only one goal across their three fixtures while scoring nine. Their one goal conceded was the best in their group out of 20.

They would qualify for their final in their group but would come out on the losing end 2-1.

The Elite Red 05 Boys would have a similarly positive group stage showing.

They would narrowly miss out on a spot in the final even though they won two of their group stage games.

Their loss to FKK 05 Kraze would be all that kept them out of the final. FKK would go on to win the final.

For the older age groups at the Disney Showcase, it is all about performing to their top ability in front of a plethora of college scouts.

The Elite Red 03, 02 and 01 Boys had the chance to compete against some of the best clubs in the nation in front of over 300 college coaches and scouts.

The showcase serves as a great avenue for exposure to top Division 1 schools such as Clemson, Butler, Wake Forest, Stanford and Ohio State while also providing exposure to other colleges across the collegiate spectrum.

The Elite Red 03 Boys squad would compete in the Showcase Category, where they would go 1-1-1.

They would open the competition with a 1-1 draw against Minneapolis United before delivering a drubbing to Delaware FC to the tune of 6-1.

They would come up against eventual champions Doral SC in the final game but would be on the losing side of a 2-0 scoreline.

The Elite Red 02 Boys would also compete in the Showcase Category.

They would finish top of the table at the end of the competition going undefeated. They would open play against Club Ohio coming out winners by the score of 3-1.

Things would come down to the wire against Darlington School Soccer Academy in the second game with a 78th minute winner being needed.

A 1-0 win in the final fixture would see the 02 Boys crowned champions of the Showcase Bracket for their age group.

The Elite Red 01 Boys would also finish the group stage undefeated. They would finish second in their bracket with seven points from two wins and a draw.
