December 7th, Waltham, MA, 2018; This past week saw five GPS players along with 16 coaches travel to Munich last week for the Annual GPS technical visit to FC Bayern.
The trip, which took place from November 24th to November 30th, was a fantastic opportunity for coaches to learn and be exposed to the FC Bayern philosophy and methodology while players had the fabulous experience of training with the FC Bayern youth teams at the FC Bayern campus.
The players who attend this week of training were selected due to their performances at one of the four GPS FC Bayern ID Camp held over this past summer.
Players who travelled this year were:
The players spent the week training with FC Bayern youth teams covering a variety of topics while Aki (who is on her third trip to Munich to train) and Taylor spent their time training with the FC Bayern Frauen 1st Team.
The FC Bayern ID Program, a club neutral program established in 2015, is geared towards discovering the most talented players with the potential to represent FC Bayern at a professional level. All ID coaches are required to follow a strict development plan that falls in line with FC Bayern’s methodology.
Coaching staff that travelled with the group participated in a three-day technical workshop lead by Sebastian Dremmler, Head of International Programming for FCB, that covered topics such as developing technique in younger players, tactical understanding of FC Bayern systems, FC Bayern Ladies Programming and Goalkeeping.
In addition to practicing at the FC Bayern Campus, players and staff were able to watch the FC Bayern methodology in action during multiple youth games at the campus’ 2,500 seater stadium and also saw FC Bayern U19s take on SL Benfica U19s in the UEFA Youth League.
They group also took in the Bundesliga match up between the home team and Fortuna Dusseldorf which ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw before traveling back to the Allianz on Tuesday to watch the 5-1 Champions League win against SL Benfica.
“We have learned a lot this week with three classroom sessions led by Sebastian Dremmler,” said Rochester FC coach Scott Graham who led the trip, “It's been great to learn about the philosophy of FC Bayern and what they look for in a player.”
The level of access to FC Bayern facilities and staff displays the uniqueness of the most extensive European Club partnership ever seen in the USA. If you would like more information about GPS & FC Bayern partnership, please contact Tommaso Trevisan at email@example.com
