Four Teams Reach Finals

November 5th, Waltham, MA, 2018; The GPS MA Elite Girls program enjoyed a successful trip to the visitRaleigh.com Girls Jr. Showcase this past weekend.

The event, hosted by North Carolina FC is one of the highest level tournaments on the East Coast and saw over 200 U10-U14 Girls teams compete from across 14 states.  The games were held primarily at the WRAL Complex just outside of Raleigh.

“We were excited to attend such a prestigious event as we conclude our fall,” said 2007 Elite Red Coach Andy Prosser.  “The conditions, organization and facilities were top notch and it was great to see our teams perform so well against great competition from all over the East Coast,” said Prosser.

All six GPS MA Elite Red and White teams participated in the event from 2007 to 2005 age groups.  The 2007 Red Girls went 2 and 1 narrowly missing out on a finals appearance in the Elite White division with a last minute goal in group play knocking them out.  The 2007 White team went one step further reaching the final after a 2-0-1 record. Unfortunately they came up short by a score of 3-1 against VSA Pre-Academy.

At 2006, the MA Elite White girls were crowned Champions in the Premier Gold Division.  After compiling a 2-1 record in group play the girls defeated GPS partner club JIYSC of South Carolina 2-0 in the final in a dramatic encounter.  The 2006 Elite Red girls were unlucky to go without a win in the tournament against strong competition in Tampa Bay Rowdies ECNL, Bethesda ECNL and NCFC Elite.

Finally at 2005 Girls, both Red and White teams reached the final.  The Red team (playing in the Elite Red division) went perfect in group play with wins over NC Fusion (2-1), Loudon SC (5-1) and Inter Atlanta (1-0).  In a close final, the girls fell 2-0 to Kolping SC. The White team went one step closer, after a 2-1 group record, their final against NCFC Gold went the distance to PKs.  In a close shootout, GPS lost in sudden death, by a score of 4-3.

Next up for the MA Elite Girls will be the GPS Thanksgiving Tournament at the end of the month, whilst our U15-U18 Girls will make their own trip to North Carolina, for the Girls Showcase in early December.
