August 28th Waltham, MA, 2018; The GPS MA Elite Girls program enjoyed a successful start to 2018/19 season, bringing home three titles from the GPS New Hampshire pre-Labor Day tournament this weekend.
Held at the GPS NH turf complex in Bedford, NH and satellite facilities throughout the Granite State, the event, now in its third year hosted clubs from throughout New England, eager to start their season off with success.
The 2007 MA Elite teams were playing in their first competitions since the summer tryouts which saw the top players from the GPS regions come together to create a Red and a White team. Led by coaches Andy Prosser and Brad Furnival the two teams played off in their final match knowing a win for either side would crown them as Champions, but ultimately the Red group prevailed 6-1.
In the 2006 bracket the Elite Red girls recorded a superb 4-0 victory over Seacoast United to build on their positive success of the spring. After an undefeated group section, goals from Maddie Lewis (2), Eva Guidone and Sophie Monfa sealed the win. The 2006 Girls are now ranked #2 in Massachusetts.
Finally, in another great advert for the program, the 2005 Elite Red and White girls faced off in the 2005 final. After a 3-0 victory for Elite Red in the group stages, the final was a much closer affair with both teams having chances to win it. Ultimately a tremendous solo effort from Kate Wall gave the win to the Red team by a score of 2-1.
Also competing in the event were the 2006 Elite White girls who finished undefeated with a 1-0-2 record and the 2008 GPS Metro North girls who came runners up in the 2008 division.
“It was fantastic to get all our Elite teams out on the field this past weekend and great to see the strength of the program across our Elite Red and White teams,” said National Premier Director Andy Prosser. “to start the season off with success is also a nice boost and we look forward to competing in Labor Day events this coming weekend,” said Prosser.
