May 3rd Waltham, MA, 2018; The GPS Massachusetts Elite Program is enjoying a successful start to the spring season and we wanted to share some highlights from this year so far.
Established in 2014 the MA Elite program sees the best players from around our GPS MA regions come together. Initially only one team per age group, this has since expanded to two teams (Elite Red and Elite White) from U12 to U18 age groups. In 2017 the MA Elite program won four State Championships, two New England NPL titles and one National title.
League and State Cup
GPS MA Elite teams are currently competing in the New England NPL and New England Premiership for the spring schedule. At the time of writing all six Elite Red Boys (05-00) teams have 100% records and sit top of NPL A table. In addition the Elite Red Girls (00), and the Elite White Boys (02 and 00) are leading their divisions.
A number of MA Elite teams have also kicked off their State Cup campaigns with notable wins for 05 Elite White Girls (versus Aztec NPL), 03 Elite White and 02 Elite White (both versus Mass City). A number of teams will kick off their campaigns this weekend at MA Youth Soccer complex in Lancaster.
Prior to the start of our season the MA Elite teams participated in a series of pre-season events across the US, the highlight was our 2003 Elite Red lifting the Jefferson Cup top bracket in March.
This Memorial Day Weekend will see many MA Elite teams compete at the GPS Memorial Day tournament, the largest single weekend soccer event in North America. Certain teams will also travel to the prestigious Potomac (Boys) and PDA (Girls) college showcases.
This spring some a big moment for GPS as MA Elite alumni Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu made his MLS debut for Atlanta United against Minnesota United. We’ve also seen a number of MA Elite players commit to colleges.
