It was a busy weekend for GPS MA teams as the preseason heats up and teams get prepared for the true start of the outdoor season.
GPS MA boys travelled to Epping, New Hampshire to take part in the Seacoast United U10-U14 Boys Premier Invitational, an event that was scheduled to take place earlier in March but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The premier invitational was made up of a groups stage followed by semi-final matchups and a final. The boy squads represented GPS well during the weekend with 3 teams claiming wins in the final.
The GPS MA Metro North Elite Red 08 squad won their bracket in the U10 category with a 4-0 win in the final against the Seacoast United Maine South Premier Blue 08. The U12 brackets saw two more GPS MA teams claim victory in the final with the GPS MA Metro Boston Elite Red B 06 and the GPS MA Central Elite B 06 both winning their brackets.
GPS MA girl squads split up and participated in two events over the weekend. A handful of teams travelled to the Jefferson Cup, one of the premier youth tournaments in North America, while others stayed a bit more local to compete in the NEFC Girls Spring Showcase.
The squads put together great performances throughout the weekend and the NEFC showcase, with a total of 17 GPS MA teams topping their respective groups. Not all group play resulted in knockout matches or a final, however, 5 of the group topping GPS MA teams earned a spot in a final with only one team failing to clinch the title.
In the U11 category the GPS MA South Coast Elite 07 and the GPS MA Boston Elite White 07s managed to clinch wins in their title matchups by the score lines of 3-2 and 1-0 respectively. The GPS MA West Elite White squad made it all the way to the final in their bracket but fell just short winning the tie losing by a score of 2-1.
GPS MA had one U13 team and one U14 team qualify for their bracket’s final, the GPS MA West Elite White 05 and GPS MA South Coast Elite 04, and both went on to win their final matchups by the score or 2-1 and 1-0 respectively.
It was by all accounts a successful weekend of play for GPS MA teams as they look to get into full swing with warm weather hopefully on the horizon. Don’t forget to keep up to date with all of our social media accounts in order to be on top of everything GPS.
