GPS teams to travel to Virginia throughout March to compete in Jefferson Cup

Waltham, March 9th 2018; 48 GPS teams from across the nation will be traveling to Richmond, Virginia throughout the month of March to take part in the 2018 Jefferson Cup beginning this weekend.

The Jefferson Cup is one of the strongest tournaments to take place on the East Coast every year, bringing over 1400 teams together for a month of competition. The event takes place over four weekends, with each weekend playing host to a different gender and age group. On average the event is forced to reject some 500 teams and boasts a playing field of teams with 150 State, 10 Regional, and 5 National Cup champions being strewn across the nine age groups.

The opening weekend, March 10th and 11th, will pit over 300 boys teams from the U10 to U15 age groups. Each age group is broken down into multiple brackets based on team level, allowing teams of similar ability to compete ensuring every team gets the most out of the weekend. The following weekend, March 17th and 18th, will operate under the same structure from the previous one but will instead feature girls teams from the U10 to U14 age groups competing.

The final two weekends in the month of March will operate under a showcase format, and will feature elite level U15-U19 girls and boys from across the country and Canada. GPS will be represented by six teams during the girl’s showcase, taking place from March 23rd to the 25th. The GPS Mass Elite Red 00 girls will get their chance to prove themselves to be one of the best U18 girls accepted as they were pooled into the Championship level bracket of their age group, meaning that they will compete against the other eleven top class teams attending.

The 2018 Jefferson Cup will conclude the following weekend, March 30th to April 1st, with the U15-U19 boys showcase. GPS will be well represented on that final weekend as 5 of the 6 championship brackets will contain GPS MA Elite squads all striving to come out on top.

“Jefferson Cup remains a fantastic event for competition and for the older age groups, collegiate exposure,” said Premier Director Matt Hardiman.  “Our teams at all levels have an extensive tournament calendar and Jefferson Cup is one of the annual highlights.”
