Waltham, MA, February 15th, 2016: The winter GPS Futsal League concluded this past weekend in Hanover and Waltham, with eleven league champions crowned.
The league, now in its third year is an integral part of the GPS Winter program for U12 – U14 players. Teams play 12 games across six weeks (two games a day) with playoffs for the top four seeds held the week after the conclusion of the regular season. The club develops the brackets to ensure a competitive environment for each team with older age groups dividing their rosters to ensure maximum playing time for all.
“The Futsal league continues to get better every year and the internal rivalries create a great atmosphere between players and coaches,” said Premier Director Andy Prosser. “By regulating the environment we ensure our teams have appropriate competition and stay sharp during the winter months,” said Prosser.
Since 2012 GPS have integrated futsal as a major part of the club’s training methodology. The game, popular in Brazil, Spain in Portugal, is excellent for developing technical precision and promotes creativity in 1v1 situations. Its fast-paced nature and quick restarts ensure the ball is in play more than typical indoor leagues with studies showing players receive the ball 6x more than in an outdoor game.
Winners of this season’s league are listed below. Congratulations to all winners.
