June 10th, 2019, Waltham, MA; GPS MA teams will be on the move this summer competing in a variety of elite level national events following a successful weekend at Progin Park.
The club will be represented by six squads at the ENPL National Playoffs; the GPS MA Elite Red 00, 02, 03, 04 and 05 Boys, GPS MA Elite White 02 Boys and by the GPS MA 2002 Elite Red Girls at the NPL National Finals.
The GPS MA 2002 Elite Red Girls clinched their spot in Colorado with two lung busting performances over the weekend in the NPL Playoffs.
The 02 Girls finished the NEP season undefeated in the NPL division with 6 wins and 1 draw. They did it behind an attack that averaged a little under 2 goals per game and a defense conceding only .5 goals per game on average.
Down 2-1 in the waning moments of the semifinal, the girls found an equalizer courtesy of a looping header to send the game to extra time. Still level at the end of ET, the girls went on to beat FC USA on penalties, with GK Izzy Shih saving the last penalty she faced and scoring her own effort to send them through.
A matchup against NEFC awaited them in the finals and for the second time in less than 24 hours the girls had to fight through extra time and face a penalty shootout. They would come out on the other side of PKs 4-1 winners having converted all of their opportunities.
The NPL National Finals are being held from July 11th to July 14th at Dick Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The girls will be looking to build on their performance last year when they finished as finalists.
The GPS MA 2000 Boys took on FC Stars in their Semifinal matchup on Saturday. It was a physical game that ended 0-0 forcing extra time. The boys managed to persevere and overcome the scorching hot sun to find the winner in ET.
The boys would have a far easier time of it in the Final against Liverpool IA where they lead 3-1 at halftime. The boys stayed focused throughout the second half and never let up earning a berth at the ENPL National Playoff.
The ENPL National Playoffs are being held in Rockford, Illinois from June 28th to July 3rd and sees the top teams from over 25 leagues come together to qualify for the ENPL National Finals.
Joining the GPS MA 2000 Elite Red Boys are the 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Boys who all qualified for the competition automatically.
The 02 Elite Red Boys finished the season undefeated in the league, racking up 10 wins in 10 games. With 42 goals for (GF) and 9 goals against (GA) this season the boys will be looking to replicate their success from last year where they won the ENPL National Title.
