16 Players to Visit Munich Next Week

April 10th, Waltham, MA, 2019;  GPS are proud to announce that for the first time ever, we will be taking an U13 Girls team to Munich, Germany.

This trip, which will take place from April 13th to April 21st, will see the team play matches against local opposition, train with the coaches at the FC Bayern Campus, watch FC Bayern in action at the Allianz Arena and enjoy the sights of Munich.  Included in the traveling party will be two GPS Boys teams as well as a number of parents. It will be a U13 girls team has traveled to Germany in April as we look to expand this to match the boys who will be returning to play FC Bayern at U11 and U12 age groups.

The FC Bayern ID Program, a club neutral program established in 2015, is geared towards discovering the most talented players with the potential to represent FC Bayern at a professional level. All ID coaches are required to follow a strict development plan that falls in line with FC Bayern’s methodology.

Players for the team were selected after numerous ID events across the country.  A special mention to the following players who were selected by FC Bayern coaching staff during these ID events:

Olivia Chen (Ottawa)
Caroline Pelkofski (GPS Florida West)
Marti Caballes (GPS San Diego)
Finn Cregan (Rochester FC)

Training with the coaches at the FC Bayern Campus will provide all players with an opportunity to experience the FC Bayern methodology as well as an opportunity to see it played out by watching  FC Bayern Youth teams in action.  In further connectivity with the FC Bayern Women's program the girls will get the chance to observe them train and meet players.  As well as being a powerhouse on the Men's side, FC Bayern's women's program is one of the strongest in Germany, which in itself is a hotbed of Women's soccer in Europe.

The highlight of the trip will definitely be seeing FC Bayern in action at their home stadium, the Allianz Arena, as they take on Werder Bremen in a Bundesliga match.  This should be an exciting encounter as the FC Bayern team are currently sitting on top of the Bundesliga table with a few matches to go.

The level of access to FC Bayern facilities and staff displays the uniqueness of the most extensive European Club partnership ever seen in the USA.
