Waltham, MA, November 29, 2016: Over 150 GPS Coaches representing eighteen nationalities congregated at Foxwoods Casino for the annual GPS retreat in Connecticut.
Highlighting the event was a Q+A with former professional English Premier League footballer and ESPN personality, Shaka Hislop. He regaled staff with stories from his extensive playing career in the English football leagues and international career with Trinidad and Tobago. Shaka shared his insight into to the high-pressure world of goal keeping at the professional level and about his transition into becoming an ESPN commentator.
Also in attendance was Jim Madrid from Advanced Sports Technology who gave an engaging seminar on how to promote self-efficacy among our staff as youth coaches. Madrid discussed ways to use your mind to “create your own season” through imagination and visualizing goals.
In addition to the guest speakers, GPS franchises presented on the success of their clubs in 2016 and handed out awards for the standout staff members. There was also a presentation from Director of Coaching Peter Bradley and GPS Technical Director Mark Spalding with an update on the FC Bayern Munich partnership and the “One Vision” mission statement of GPS for 2017. CEO Joe Bradley delivered his annual 'State of the Union' address, closing with 2017 goals for GPS as a whole.
“The annual staff retreat is one of the highlights of the GPS year, allowing management to recognize staff for all their hard work throughout the year," said GPS COO Justin Capell. "It is an opportunity to reflect on the previous twelve months, reinforce alignment across our many locations and set out the aims for the year ahead," said Capell.
